Context.
Mr.BigBali is a street food brand created by Arthur, who comes from Indonesia.
The brand shares traditional Balinese recipes through generous and accessible food.
The challenge was to build an identity that could express this cultural background in a modern way, without relying on typical tourist or decorative references.
The goal was to create a consistent visual system that works across digital, print, and merchandise while staying connected to Balinese culture.

Approach.
My approach was to use cultural references as building blocks for the identity rather than decorative elements.
The Barong became a key reference early in the process.
In Balinese culture, it represents protection, strength, and presence.
Instead of creating a direct illustration, I focused on translating some of its visual characteristics into a graphic language that could work across the whole brand.
The goal was not to illustrate Bali, but to build a contemporary brand system inspired by it.

Visual systems.
The colour palette takes inspiration from Balinese textiles and ceremonial clothing.
Deep greens and warm ochre tones help create a welcoming atmosphere while keeping a connection to the project's cultural roots.
To balance these influences, I chose a more contemporary typographic direction. The typefaces have a clean structure with subtle rounded details that make the brand feel more approachable and food-focused.
Layouts are organised through a modular grid system to keep consistency across different applications.
Together, these elements create a visual system that combines cultural inspiration with a modern brand language.

System in use.
The identity was designed as a system that could grow with the brand.
Whether applied to digital content, print materials, or merchandise, the different elements remain consistent while adapting to each format.
More than creating a logo or a visual style, the project was about building a flexible foundation that could support the brand as it develops.
